Ode To Grandma N.L.

Ode To Grandma N.L.
Orleans House Gallery
April 2008

Davina and Daniel were commissioned to create a site-specific event for the launch of Phase 3 at Orleans House Gallery, London. They decided to create a work inspired by a late resident of the house, Nellie Ionides, who lived in Orleans House during the 1950’s and 1960’s and often hosted glamorous tea parties. Davina and Daniel learned about Nellie through the words of her granddaughter so chose to title the piece an ode to Grandma N.L.
The event involved inviting participants to share a their favourite ingredients for a cake and write it on a paper doyley, which was then laminated to given to another participant to keep as a souvenir.

Be Our Valentine

Be Our Valentine
Second Thursdays at The Montague
14 February 2008
Be Our Valentine was a work included in the monthly Second Thursday evenings of performance, poetry, and music curated by Frog Morris, held at The Montague Arms in South London.

During the evening of 14th of February 2008, Davina and Daniel established a vantage point from where they wrote, and addressed Valentine Cards to individual audience members who caught their eye -

'To the woman in the red coat drinking a glass of wine'

To find out if they had indeed received a card from Davina and Daniel, the audience, looked in a post box placed on the bar, where each card was deposited.

Later, during the evening, a woman took upon herself the role of Cupid, hand delivering each card to their intended recipient.

8 Weeks of Change

8 Weeks of Change
Space Station Sixty-Five
September - November 2007

Davina and Daniel turned their attention to the phenomena of the self-help industry, and the methods it employs to help people feel happy, by transforming Space Station Sixty-Five into an alternative self-help centre. Over a period of eight weeks, Davina and Daniel provided a range of individual and group activities, presenting visitors with opportunities to participate in creative self-reflection, group conversations, and personal affirmations, with the Therapy Of The Day, Self Help Actions, or a One To One Consultation with Davina and Daniel.

Street Recipes

Campbell Works
July 2007

What is your favourite recipe?

For Street Recipes Davina and Daniel invited people on the streets of Stoke Newington to share their favourite home recipes with their neighbours.

Participants were asked to write down their favourite home recipes on colourful paper, which was then laminated by Davina and Daniel and hang up around the streets of Stoke Newington with beautiful ribbons.

Davina and Daniel in partnership with Campbell Works are planning to make a book soon with all 200 of the recipes, which they have collected.

Gorillas In The Roses

Gorillas In The Roses
Camberwell Arts Festival
June 2007

We are taught to handle books with respect. However, inspired by Joe Orton’s and Kenneth Halliwell’s defacing of books in 1967 at Islington Public Library, Davina and Daniel’s Gorilla In The Roses granted permission to cut and collage books, allowing participants to create a ’micro library’ of truly unique books at Camberwell Public Library. The ‘micro library’ remained in the adult library on a marked shelf for one week. Contributors could then return to collect their individual books.
